New Product Release: major anti-spoofing upgrades that prevent fraud while optimizing conversion rates https://veridas.com/en/new-product-release-2023-3/ Tue, 09 May 2023 07:42:26 +0000 https://veridas.com/?p=51687

We are thrilled to announce the launch of our latest release, 2023.3, which comes with substantial enhancements to all our products aimed at improving accuracy and performance. These updates have resulted in a significant increase in conversion rates, a crucial factor when assessing the effectiveness of biometric solutions. At Veridas, we take pride in our ability to certify the performance of our products, and this latest release is no exception.

Digital Onboarding: broader coverage and better reading, and improved anti-spoofing algorithms

We are excited to announce our latest product release, which includes significant improvements to our document verification engine, liveness detection algorithms, and software development kits (SDKs). These updates bring a host of benefits to our users, including enhanced accuracy, faster processing times, and improved conversion rates.

One of the most significant improvements we’ve made is to our document verification engine. Our photo replacement algorithms have been upgraded for all passports, resulting in a global boost to document reading and significant enhancements to conversion rates. In addition, our worldwide coverage has been expanded to include additional IDs such as the new Italian ID card (2022), the new Canadian (Alberta) driving license, or the new Peruvian residence permit document.

Face Biometric Authentication: improved anti-spoofing algorithms while boosting conversion rates

We’ve also introduced a new liveness detection algorithm that improves our onboarding solutions’ accuracy, conversion rates, and processing times. As an example, this new algorithm has led to a remarkable increase in conversion rates for our video-selfie solution, which has jumped from 72% to 96% reducing computing time by less than half. For our passive liveness detection solution, conversion rates have improved to ~94.

Our SDKs have undergone significant improvements to enhance the capturing process for both documents, selfies, and videos. This means that our users can now experience even faster and more seamless capturing processes, leading to a more streamlined and efficient user experience.

Voice Biometric Authentication: enhanced liveness detection algorithms to stop fraudsters for good

In addition to the improvements mentioned above, we are proud to announce that we have significantly enhanced our voice biometric authentication solution. These updates have been designed to improve the security of our platform and further protect our users’ identities.

One of the key improvements we’ve made is to raise the security barriers of our system, with a particular focus on detecting and preventing replay attacks in the form of pre-recorded voices. Our enhanced antispoofing engine has been specifically designed to detect both low and high-quality spoofs, increasing detection rates by 35% and 80%, respectively. This means that our system is now even better equipped to identify and prevent fraudulent attempts to access user accounts, further improving the security of our platform.

We take the security of our users’ data very seriously and are committed to investing in the latest technologies and techniques to stay ahead of potential threats. Our enhanced voice biometric authentication solution is just one example of this commitment, and we will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that our platform remains at the forefront of identity verification technology.

Overall, our latest product release represents a significant step forward in our ongoing commitment to providing cutting-edge identity verification solutions that deliver the highest accuracy, speed, and reliability. New Product Release: portfolio-wide improvements in performance and accuracy https://veridas.com/en/new-product-release-2023-2/ Thu, 23 Feb 2023 15:57:03 +0000 https://veridas.com/?p=47239

New Product Release: boosted accuracy and performance across the whole portfolio, resulting in higher conversion rates

Two months have passed since the beginning of 2023, and we are already introducing the new release, 2023.2. And we are doing so to announce substantial improvements in all our products linked to accuracy and performance, leading to significant increases in conversion rates. An essential factor when evaluating the performance of biometric solutions and one that Veridas has never had any problem certifying.

Digital Onboarding: more accurate document reading and a new, game-changing auto-classification system

Our Identity Verification Platform (IDV) has undergone improvements in several facets. To begin with, we have continued to improve the accuracy of reading ID documents, with a particular focus on U.S. documents. Specifically, we have improved the Character Error Rate (CER) by an average of 2%.

We have also added new identity documents to our global coverage, such as the new Croatian ID card or the new Portuguese driving license among others.

Regarding our Plug & Play onboarding solution, also known as XpressID, we launched a new auto-sorting functionality that promises to revolutionize the customer experience. Thanks to this new technology, end users will not need to specify either the type of document (except for passports) or the issuing country when initiating a digital onboarding process, substantially improving the overall experience and conversion rates.

Finally, release 2023.2 also enhances our case-management tool, Boidas, to enable better control and monitoring of production activity and improvements to most of our SDKs: document, selfie, video, and NFC.

Facial and voice authentication: optimized engines for higher conversion and reduced processing times

The improvements of this release concerning the Facial and Voice Biometric Authentication solutions have focused on optimizing the biometric engines to achieve better conversion results without compromising the security obtained. This has been possible in our Facial Biometrics Active Life Test, qualified by iBeta with level 2 concerning ISO 30.107, and in our Voice Biometrics engine.

Precisely, about voice biometrics, we have optimized the solution for its operation in the telephone channel, which brings improvements in conversion rates of 25%. In addition, we have improved our Voice Activity Detection (VAD) processing time by 87% on average, which translates into faster processing times.

Don’t miss the opportunity to learn more about all the enhancements in our documentation portal or contact our sales or technical teams.

With the new year’s arrival, Veridas continues to drive significant product enhancements, primarily in the form of increased processing speed, improved fraud detection, and greater accuracy. All with the sole purpose of continuing to deliver the best solutions to our customers.

But it is not only product releases that we bring to the table. We have also redrawn our release calendar for the year by replacing the quarterly releases (Q1, Q2, …) with eight releases per year (2023.1, 2023.2, …) to deliver improvements more often, generating more value for our customers.

Finally, another new feature is the unification of release dates in our production environments (LIVE) in America and Europe. Today, January 13, we are launching the new features in our test environment (SANDBOX), and next January 5, they will go into production in all territories simultaneously.

More secure and accurate Digital Onboarding

Fraud prevention has always been a commitment at Veridas, whose solutions generate tangible results. Therefore, with each product release, we always bring fraud detection improvements, in this case, improving photo replacement detection algorithms for our document verification solution. The new algorithm achieves an accuracy above 97% in all geographies.

We  also enhanced our funnel conversion rates between 2 and 6% by implementing document reading upgrades such as adding new OCR nodes for UK documents, reducing Character Error Rates for UK, Germany, and Italy, or enhancing MRZ decoding in all geographies.

At the same time, Veridas launched new SDKs for document and video capture, including more customization options while improving the overall user experience across all platforms.

Finally, we continued extending our document coverage globally, adding numerous identity cards, residence permits, and driving licenses. Check our document coverage here

Faster face authentication

In the world of authentication, not only is accuracy key but also the speed of execution is critical to ensure a customer experience that drives the adoption of these technologies. In this regard, Veridas has achieved significant improvements in our facial biometrics engines, which speed up authentication processes.

Specifically, we have considerably reduced processing times by 25% in facial biometrics while reducing false positive and negative rates. This means a win-win for both usability and security.

New Product Release: Multi-document onboarding, automatic dropout recovery, improved fraud detection, and new anti-deepfake algorithm https://veridas.com/en/multi-document-onboarding-automatic-dropout-recovery-improved-fraud-detection-and-new-anti-deepfake-algorithm/ https://veridas.com/en/multi-document-onboarding-automatic-dropout-recovery-improved-fraud-detection-and-new-anti-deepfake-algorithm/#respond Fri, 24 Jun 2022 12:22:28 +0000 https://veridas.com/?p=37359

Today, Friday, June 24th, Veridas will deploy the new evolutions of its identity verification technologies in the sandbox environment (testing environment available to its customers). Evolutions that not only affect the Digital Onboarding solution but also incorporate significant improvements in the facial and voice biometrics algorithms, solid foundations of our authentication solutions.

A few weeks after its release to sandbox, a time window designed for our customers to test the solutions in a secure environment, Veridas will definitively deploy the technology in production environments. The deployment is scheduled for July 17 in the United States and July 24 in Europe.

Digital onboarding: greater security, versatility, and conversion

In this new product release, substantial improvements have been implemented for our Digital Onboarding solution, both from the security point of view, improving our document fraud detection capabilities, and from the perspective of modularity and user experience.

To begin with, we now allow the implementation of multi-document customer registration processes, adding to a Digital Onboarding flow the verification of two or more different documents, whether they are passports, identity cards, driving licenses, etc. Although each document will be analyzed individually by the more than thirty algorithms prepared to check its validity, Veridas will provide a single global score for all documents.

Regarding fraud detection capabilities, one of our main objectives as a company, we improved the print attack detection algorithms for all passports and the replay attack detection algorithm for all documents, reaching a 95% detection rate for both. For Mexican documents, we have added a photo replacement detection algorithm with a 90% detection rate.

Another exciting improvement, which allows us to increase the conversion funnel of our customers, is the possibility of recovering unfinished Digital Onboarding processes at the exact point where the users abandoned them. This new feature is designed to allow our customers to configure the time window for that function to be available to the end-user, substantially improving conversion rates by not having to repeat steps that have been previously completed. This option will be available for XpressID, our plug & play onboarding solution that our customers can deploy in less than two weeks.

Pioneering secure facial authentication

Veridas has always considered it essential to be at the forefront of digital fraud protection to safeguard the real identity of users using our technology. And if we talk about vanguard, we must be prepared to effectively combat a new reality, increasingly present in the day-to-day life of this type of solution: deepfakes.

Deepfakes, also known as Face or Identity Swap, is an impersonation attempt in which the attacker presents the system with a realistic video generated by artificial intelligence algorithms. In this video, the victim’s face replaces the attacker’s, making it very difficult for a human to detect.

To combat this new attack type, Veridas has implemented a new algorithm for detecting deepfakes, accessible from any onboarding or facial authentication process. The result of this analysis is integrated with the rest of Veridas’ liveness detection technologies, which reached level 2 in iBeta’s evaluation last April. This achievement places Veridas among a very small number of companies worldwide that have had their facial engines evaluated by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in its 1:1 and 1:N assessment and have also passed the iBeta Level 1 and Level 2 assessment.

Robust voice authentication against fraud

Finally, Veridas has also enhanced its liveness detection technologies for voice biometrics. These technologies detect prerecorded or synthetic voices, distinguishing them from genuine voices, and reinforcing the security associated with these authentication processes.

Improvements have been relevant both for the detection of voices coming from high-fidelity and low-fidelity loudspeakers. This fundamental functionality, coupled with the ability to verify an identity with only 3 seconds of voice in any language and text, allows Veridas to strengthen its global leadership position.

A unique value proposition; a Phygital proposition

Veridas presents itself in 2022 with a unique value proposition: to guarantee the right to use the real identity of people both in the digital and physical world, without passwords or keys.

To this end, Veridas develops 100% proprietary technologies for facial biometrics, voice biometrics, document verification, and physical access, allowing us to confront the future through a holistic vision of identity.

At the same time, we continue to drive the development of new use cases and the arrival in new geographies, with the recent opening of the subsidiary in the United States. This opening, linked to the physical presence in Mexico, confirms the company’s international expansion, which already operates in more than 15 countries and serves more than 150 clients.

New Product Release: connection with PEPs & AML, improved conversion funnels and extended document coverage https://veridas.com/en/new-product-release-connection-with-peps-aml-improved-conversion-funnels-and-extended-document-coverage/ https://veridas.com/en/new-product-release-connection-with-peps-aml-improved-conversion-funnels-and-extended-document-coverage/#respond Fri, 01 Apr 2022 00:00:07 +0000 https://veridas.com/?p=31630

The end of the first quarter of 2022 brings a new product release from Veridas, as has been the company’s tradition since its origins. Through this new product update, Veridas reinforces its commitment to continuously improving its solutions and pursuing technological excellence. This commitment is part of our DNA: Talent, Work and Technology, the 3T that define us.

This release will be effective this Friday, April 1st, in the sandbox environment that all our customers have enabled for testing. After a few weeks, and providing enough time for Veridas customers to test the solutions before incorporating them into their ongoing processes, these product enhancements will be uploaded to the production environment, specifically on April 24 in our AWS environment in the United States and on May 1 in Europe.

A more global and accurate Digital Onboarding

This new product release has added more identity documents to our extensive catalogue of document coverage serving 190 countries. Specifically, this release allows performing a document verification on the Mexican residence permit (FM3), the Mexican professional card, the Andorran residence permit (NRT) and the Peruvian residence permit.

This extensive coverage allows our customers to operate globally with a single biometrics provider: Veridas. In addition, the fact that our solutions are 100% proprietary enables us to add new documents in a matter of days if a customer and use case requires it.

We have also improved the ability to extract and analyze the data contained in the documents: we have increased by 1% the reading capacity of 2D barcodes globally and improved the Character Error Rate (CER) by 1% in Spain, the Netherlands and Hungary.

A more secure and robust Digital Onboarding

As a society, we are increasingly aware of the risks we face regarding digital fraud and cybersecurity. Such risks become more evident when discussing biometric technologies in the digital identity verification ecosystem. Being able to completely close the doors to those fraudsters who try to operate under someone else’s identity will be the key to achieving a complete and reliable digital transformation; no digitalization is possible without a real identity.

To this end, Veridas pays special attention to continuously improving the quality of its fraud detection processes in the field of both document fraud and biometric fraud.

Regarding the first type of fraud mentioned, which comes from false or manipulated identity documents, we have deployed new algorithms capable of detecting colour photocopies (replay attacks) and photo-to-screen attacks (print attacks) with an accuracy of over 90% for all standardized documents, worldwide.

Another essential step toward fraud prevention has been implementing connections between our modular Digital Onboarding processes and PEPs (Politically Exposed Person) and AML (Anti-Money Laundering) identity databases. These connections will allow companies that wish to do so to contrast the personal data extracted by Veridas from the identity document presented against these databases, which may be public (government) or private so that our clients can act accordingly.

A Digital Onboarding that converts more and better

Another critical aspect of implementing Digital Onboarding processes is their ability to convert potential customers into actual customers. This ability is usually measured under the concept of funnel conversion and is critical for any company, regardless of industry or geography.

In this sense, at Veridas, we are very aware of this need, and therefore we can guarantee our clients exceptional conversion rates. The improvement of these rates is always the main objective to achieve at every release, and in this Q, it could not be less: we have reached an improvement of the document conversion funnel of 5% in Mexico, 9% in France, and Hungary or 4% in Bulgaria. That places our global average conversion rates above 80%.

In addition, we have also improved the funnel corresponding to the biometric verification stage by 2% in all native processes, especially notable in Colombia.

A present project that anticipates the future

At Veridas, we continue to focus on certification as one of the fundamental pillars to continue building our project. We are paying particular attention to the continuous evaluations of the National Institute of Standards and Technology, NIST, where we want to continue to be a global benchmark in 2022.

We are also looking to achieve a higher level of compliance with ISO 30.107 in terms of liveness detection performance. iBeta already validated Veridas compliance with this regulation, granting us level 1 in December 2021 (iBeta Quality Assurance Level 1 PAD -Presentation Attack Detection-), and we hope to increase it.

We also want to continue strengthening our commitment to the fight against digital fraud. We are already working on preventing critical issues such as deepfakes, for which we are developing algorithms dedicated exclusively to their detection.

To keep abreast of these product developments and much more, we encourage you to follow our activity on social networks (Linkedin, Twitter and Instagram) and subscribe to our newsletter, where we regularly report on current issues closely related to biometrics and digital identity verification.

Veridas strengthens its technology leadership by improving the speed and accuracy of its facial biometrics engine in the latest NIST FRVT 1:N evaluation https://veridas.com/en/veridas-strengthens-technology-leadership-improving-speed-accuracy-facial-biometrics-engine/ https://veridas.com/en/veridas-strengthens-technology-leadership-improving-speed-accuracy-facial-biometrics-engine/#respond Tue, 10 Aug 2021 11:07:19 +0000 http://veridas.com/veridas-refuerza-su-liderazgo-tecnologico-mejorando-la-rapidez-y-precision-de-su-motor-de-biometria-facial-en-la-evaluacion-1n-del-nist-frvt/

Introduction

The new engine incorporates significant improvements in the speed and accuracy of its system, already available across its entire product portfolio.

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in the US has released the latest report on the 1:N evaluation of biometric facial recognition vendors. This test consists of finding a person within a database of identities. To do this, a facial image is compared against a gallery of millions of images and it is determined whether that person is within that database.

When performing these searches, there are two essential elements to take into account: the speed or agility in obtaining a result and the accuracy and reliability of the result itself. In most cases, greater accuracy will require a longer search time. However, Veridas’ engine has managed to improve both parameters, finding a perfect balance between security and customer experience.

This latest version is capable of performing a search in 322 milliseconds within a gallery of 1.6 million faces. At the same time, the search error for galleries of 12 million identities has been reduced from 15.41% to 7.53%.

This improvement places Veridas in the 8th position out of 62 engines in facial identification for 12 million galleries, ahead of other providers such as Aware (25.31% error), Cogent (21.19% error), HIK (21.29% error), Incode (16.19% error), Microsoft (14.82% error), Cognitec (11.03% error), Yitu (10.57% error) o Visionlabs (9.20% error).

All these improvements are already in production environments for all Veridas products and services for digital identity verification and fraud detection.

Leading and certified technology

Veridas has recently become the only company to be included in NIST’s evaluations for facial recognition (both 1:1 and 1:N) and speaker recognition (1:1). In addition, Veridas has passed ISO 30.107 iBeta Level 1 PAD (Presentation Attack Detection) test for its Liveness Detection solution and also holds ISO 27.001 on the Security of Information Systems accredited by Bureau Veritas.

NIST, the institution of reference in the field of biometrics

The National Institute of Standards and Technology in the US is the most relevant institution in terms of biometric technologies’ standardization. NIST carries out periodic evaluations of biometric engines submitted by different providers to assess and provide unbiased accuracy and performance rates in different environments.

NIST participation is completely free of charge and open to any vendor or institution.

Veridas has been submitting its technologies to NIST’s evaluations since 2018 and continues to do so with the strong belief that constant scrutiny is the only way to maintain its position as a global leader in the biometric solutions market.

Results shown from NIST do not constitute an endorsement of any particular system, product, service, or company by NIST.

What is the difference between verification (1:1) and identification (1:N)?

There are two ways to perform a biometric comparison:

  • 1:1 or verification: A photo or audio is compared against another existing evidence (e.g. the photo or audio from the enrollment). Depending on the similarity score it is determined if it is the same person.
  • 1:N or identification: A photo or audio is compared again, but unlike the previous case, it is done against a database containing many other photos/audios. That is, it is compared against each and every one of the pieces of evidence present in that database and it is determined if that person is within that group.

Veridas launches a new voice biometric engine, strengthening its leading position in the global market https://veridas.com/en/veridas-launches-a-new-voice-biometric-engine-strengthening-its-leading-position-in-the-global-market/ https://veridas.com/en/veridas-launches-a-new-voice-biometric-engine-strengthening-its-leading-position-in-the-global-market/#respond Thu, 28 Jan 2021 11:39:13 +0000 http://veridas.com/?p=15465

The new engine has substantially improved both the verification and anti-fraud performance

This beginning of the year has brought significant improvements for one of the leading voice biometrics solutions in the global market. Veridas have been able to announce substantial gains in their 100% proprietary text & language-independent solution: das-Peak biometric engine has improved by 40.39% it’s verification performance from its last version*, reaching an Equal Error Rate (EER) of 2.66% in industry’s most recognized challenge: the NIST SRE CTS20 challenge, where Veridas is currently having a great start.

Equal error rate biometrics

The anti-spoofing technology has also solidly improved, especially when detecting pre-recorded voices from medium & high fidelity speakers. In fact, Veridas announces an accuracy to detect fraud of 96.62%, this being the result of an internal evaluation carried out on more than 650,000 authentic and spoofing audios.

With this new set of improvements, Veridas ensures its technological leadership in the Digital Verification of Identities industry where voice biometrics solutions are rapidly gaining greater relevance. Thanks to Veridas solution, users can authenticate themselves by speaking freely (no more forgotten passwords!), in any language they want, with just 3 seconds of audio and in less than 140 milliseconds. The range of possible applications for das-Peak is unimaginable.

Veridas corroborated its dominant position within voice technologies also in some of the most prestigious challenges of the industry, where the engine has obtained fantastic results. In fact, Veridas’ solution was awarded second place worldwide in the SdSV Challenge text-independent task in 2020, demonstrating best results in the state-of-the-art in voice biometrics for short utterances conditions.

There are more than a few important companies currently integrating Veridas’s solution into their authentication processes from a wide range of industries (banking, alarms, telcos, etc.) either within a call center environment, within their own mobile applications or through third parties (virtual assistants, mobile messaging applications, etc.). With this cutting-edge solution, omnicanality is finally becoming a tangible reality

*Performance improvement evaluated against an internal database that contains a sample of 6000 audios from 250 different speakers. Between each session of recording, there is a minimum separation of two weeks and the dataset is gender-balanced. The EER improved from a value of 3.07% with the previous biometric engine to a value of 1.83% with the new engine.
