The Navarre Employment Service and Veridas have joined efforts once again to launch the second edition of the “Digital Builders” training program. This innovative program seeks to provide unemployed young people, as well as adults, or those who want to change their professional career, with the opportunity to acquire digital skills and improve their employability in the labor market.

The first edition was a success because nearly 60% of the graduates have been hired by companies to develop their new digital skills. The rest of the graduates are completing their professional internships and have very good prospects to consolidate their new knowledge through a job.

This innovative training program, which is subsidized by the Navarre Employment Service, is scheduled to start in September 2023 and will end in February 2024. It consists of 605 theoretical-practical hours in a hybrid format, combining classroom and online classes, and also offers three months of voluntary internships in companies to consolidate the knowledge acquired.Places to participate in the program are limited and the registration process opened on April 17. In this second edition, 20 persons can be trained and the selection process is already underway. Registrations can be made through this link.

Veridas teachers at the service of new Digital Builders

The ‘Digital Builders’ program stands out for its hands-on approach and project-based learning methodology. Students, who do not need to have previous experience, are guided at all times by a training team composed of Veridas professionals, who provide them with personalized attention and individualized follow-up to ensure that they get the most out of their training experience. Thanks to this combination of hands-on training and individualized attention, students are able to acquire valuable digital skills that will enable them to compete in an increasingly demanding job market. Thanks to this dedication and personalized attention from Veridas mentors, many students from the first edition have achieved their professional goals and have gained access to new job opportunities in the digital world.

The program is divided into two phases. The first, which starts in September, lasts six weeks and focuses on theoretical training in digital skills such as programming, web design, data analysis and digital marketing. Participants will have access to a complete curriculum that will allow them to acquire practical knowledge applicable to real work situations.

Once the theoretical phase is completed, participants will move on to the second phase of the program, which will end in February 2024, where practical training will be carried out through the implementation of real projects. In this way, the “Digital Bricklayers” will have the opportunity to apply the knowledge acquired during the theoretical phase and gain practical experience in digital skills.

"At Veridas we are very proud to launch the second edition of the 'Digital Builders' program together with the Navarre Employment Service. This program represents a unique opportunity to train people in digital skills and improve their job prospects. We are committed to developing talent in Navarra and around the world, and we believe that this initiative is an excellent way to foster personal and professional growth. We look forward to continuing to collaborate on projects like this in the future, and helping to create a more educated, innovative and prosperous society."

The second edition of the “Digital Builders” program offers an excellent opportunity for participants to enhance their skills and capabilities in the digital world while providing them with greater employability in today’s ever-evolving job market.

The “Digital Bricklayers” program is an example of the commitment of the Navarra Employment Service and Veridas to the training and development of digital talent in the Navarra region. The participants of the first edition of the program were very satisfied with the results obtained, and many of them have managed to find employment in the digital sector after completing the program.

If you are interested in participating in the second edition of the “Digital Bricklayers” program, we encourage you to visit the website of the Navarra Employment Service, register as an applicant to access the program, and get more information about the requirements for participation.

In summary, the second edition of the “Digital Bricklayers” program represents a great opportunity to improve digital skills and employability in today’s job market. If you want to turn your professional career around and train in the digital world, don’t miss the opportunity to participate in this innovative training program.

Veridas pioneers the diagnosis of compliance with the ethical principles of its Artificial Intelligence system https://veridas.com/en/ethics-artificial-intelligence/ Thu, 22 Dec 2022 12:10:09 +0000 https://veridas.com/?p=45247

Veridas has just become one of the first companies at a national level to carry out a ‘Diagnosis on the ethical principles of Artificial Intelligence’ with the support of PwC, a pioneering firm in this type of work. This diagnosis consists of analyzing the formal compliance with the ethical principles of artificial intelligence systems of companies and the ethical, legal, and technical framework on which these systems are developed.

Spanish and European regulation as a starting point

As regulatory starting points, we considered the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy (ENIA) of December 2020 and the European Commission’s proposed regulation on artificial intelligence (AI Act) of April 2021, which was presented as “a bill that aims to establish a regulation on AI, and to which companies will have to start complying in less than two years.

More recently, on February 23, 2022, the European Union approved a proposal for a Directive on Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence, which aims to promote sustainable and responsible business behavior along global supply chains.

The proposed directive seeks to impose a series of obligations on companies concerning human rights and environmental impact, even defining the payment of fines and compensation by companies to people affected by the consequences of the adverse effects.

Based on the ethical, legal, and technical framework established in the current regulations and market standards, PwC developed a work program to diagnose whether organizations formally comply with these ethical principles, mainly covering the following areas:

  1. Privacy and Data Governance.
  2. Safety and Security: reliability, robustness, and accuracy.
  3. Responsibility and Accountability.
  4. Transparency and explainability.
  5. Principle of fairness.
  6. Focus on the human being: Human control and surveillance.
  7. Promotion of values and human rights.
  8. Environmental sustainability.

"The socioeconomic impact of artificial intelligence is evident. The continuous advances in research and application of this technology, in which the machine tries to replicate human capabilities such as reasoning, learning, creativity, or the ability to plan, have made it clear that its adoption must be a priority for all companies if they wish to remain competitive over the next decade.

However, the adoption of this technology has a major challenge that companies must know how to manage; the high impact that AI applications already have on our lives highlights the fact that never in history has it been such a priority to ensure a responsible and ethical use of technology."

Veridas, blazing a trail in the Artificial Intelligence sector

Veridas strengthens its commitment to be at the forefront of transparency, auditing, and reliability of its biometric solutions.

Leire Arbona, director of the Legal and Compliance department of Veridas, describes the company’s commitment with the following words:

"Since the creation of Veridas, it was clear to us that trust in this type of solutions must always be based on transparency and compliance, not only with legal and technical standards but also with the highest ethical values. This diagnostic work is another example of Veridas' evolution in this regard and our commitment to improving it continually.”

To the constant evaluation of solutions in their technical aspect by prestigious international institutions such as the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) or in their legal aspect for compliance with current regulations on data protection or prevention of money laundering, among many others, we now add this diagnosis of an ethical nature.

Precisely these three aspects, legal, technical and ethical, are the three fundamental pillars of any “trustworthy” AI. Specifically:

  • Legality: compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Ethics: ensuring adherence to ethical principles and values.
  • Robustness: both technically and socially, even with good intentions, AI systems can cause unintended harm.

In this assignment, we have not only been observing the ethical regulations of the European Commission or the Government of Spain, but we have also focused on other relevant sources of information, such as the AI Risk Management Proposal published by NIST or use cases published by specialized media such as Harvard Business Review or MIT Technology Review

“We have learned a lot in this process, having another independent view of our solutions and processes that have undoubtedly left us with many ideas on how to continue improving,” said Arbona.

In short, this diagnosis helps Veridas to position itself at the forefront of compliance with the ethical principles of Artificial Intelligence systems.

A legal and regulatory framework open to improvement

Through the work carried out in recent months, it has become clear that there are still areas for improvement in drafting regulations related to environmental and ethical issues.

For example, it has become clear that there is a need for guidance on documenting and auditing the compliance of artificial intelligence systems with the aforementioned ethical principles.

We have also become aware of the importance of rigorously documenting the risk analysis of artificial intelligence systems. In this regard, the NIST recommendations could be taken as a reference. However, it would be good to have a similar guide proposed by the European Commission.

The field of artificial intelligence is an ecosystem experiencing exponential growth; therefore, governments must tackle its regulation promptly. This will prevent the emergence of inappropriate and undesirable behavior by individuals or entities wishing to misuse the constant technological evolution we are facing.

Veridas strengthens its team by appointing a new Core Technologies Director and creating a Business Intelligence & Innovation department https://veridas.com/en/javier-san-agustin-appointed-new-core-technologies-director/ Tue, 13 Dec 2022 13:00:28 +0000 https://veridas.com/?p=45047

Veridas remains firm in its commitment to continue being one of the leaders in identity and biometrics by appointing Javier San Agustín as the new Core Technologies Director and creating a Business Intelligence and Innovation department led by his predecessor, Mikel Sánchez.

Eduardo Azanza, CEO of Veridas, commented on the new hire that “Javier brings a huge experience in cutting-edge technology after his tenure in the VR department of Facebook, but he is also very close to the market and customer needs after having founded his own company.”

Eduardo also added, concerning the new BI & Innovation department, that “Mikel’s appointment will help to consolidate and further expand Veridas growth globally by setting up the best business intelligence practices, coordinating our regional teams, and getting the voice of the customer”

As well as business volume, which has increased by more than 2.5 times compared to 2021, the increase in the number of employees has been remarkable in the last year, at all levels and in all areas. As Muskilda Pascualena, Director of Talent and Culture of the company, summarizes, “Veridas is completing a year of overall growth at the business level, and so are its technical and management teams. Staff growth will be critical in the coming months and years, and we must be up to the challenge.”

A new Core Technologies director with international experience and an entrepreneurial mindset

It is no secret that Veridas is a company with a powerful entrepreneurial mindset. And this mentality can be seen in its entire workforce and how they face everyday challenges and tasks.

In this sense, the appointment of Javier San Agustín fits perfectly with the company’s culture. With more than a decade of international work experience in technology, Javier holds a Ph.D. from the IT University of Copenhagen. Among his experiences, he co-founded his own company in 2011, The Eye Tribe, which commercialized Eye Tracking solutions. Such was the success of this business venture that Facebook acquired The Eye Tribe in 2016.

From that moment on, Javier worked as an Engineering Manager at Facebook (Meta), where he performed a critical job leading and supporting a team that develops and productizes Eye Tracking solutions for Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR).

“Joining the Veridas project is an inspiring challenge as it means becoming part of a very talented team, which has created state-of-the-art solutions worldwide and is looking to continue leading the biometrics and identity industry in the coming decades.” Javier himself commented on his recent incorporation.

A new Business Intelligence & Innovation department: the key to facing the years to come

Another significant change in the structure of Veridas has been the creation of the Business Intelligence and Innovation department, led by the former director of Core Technologies, Mikel Sanchez.

Mikel’s invaluable experience, after leading the technology department since the founding of Veridas, will be critical in this new function that will help define and implement the company’s processes to facilitate growth.

The new department will also implement Business Intelligence systems, data analytics, and information interpretation, helping customers to make better decisions.

As Mikel says, “the challenges faced by the new Business Intelligence and Innovation department are vital for the organization and will be a key element in the company’s growth.” And it is that adding to those mentioned above, the area led by Mikel “will also be involved in managing innovation and intellectual property and participating in international policy-making forums and certifications.”

Veridas gathers its international sales team in Spain to plan for the coming years https://veridas.com/en/international-team-veridas/ Fri, 04 Nov 2022 13:01:49 +0000 https://veridas.com/?p=43883

Our marketing, sales, and customer success teams from our offices in Europe, Latin America, and the United States gathered at our headquarters in Pamplona, Spain. The group was composed of more than 180 people from 13 different nationalities.

This summit aimed to align strategic messages to guide the company’s positioning in the coming years. This approach focuses on the concept of Phygital Identity. An idea that is present in our manifesto and that ensures the right of people to use their real identity in the physical and digital world. The search for a future without keys and passwords, where people are recognized privately, securely, and voluntarily for being who they are.

The summit coincided with the 5th anniversary of Veridas, five years in which we have gained the trust of hundreds of customers in 25 countries. Millions of users enjoy our identity verification and biometric authentication solutions every day.

World-leading technology

These figures are only achievable with robust, world-leading technology development. Veridas technologies, developed 100% in-house, are at the forefront of the market and are explained with maximum transparency. Our systems are periodically subjected to the strictest international evaluations such as those carried out by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in the United States or the ISO 30107 iBeta Level 2 that verifies the ability to detect identity theft with its proof-of-life technology.

In terms of regulation and data protection, Veridas complies with the most demanding regulations in force, such as the RGPD in Europe or the CCPA in California, USA.

This relationship of mutual trust has made us one of the leaders in demanding sectors such as banking and insurance, where we are already the leading provider in Spain and Mexico.

A wide variety of use cases are implemented in production, such as digital customer registration in many countries, border control at the airport in Italy, voice biometric authentication of Mexican pensioners, or the first facial biometric access to soccer stadiums in LaLiga.

Our fuel, human talent

The second pillar of this great project could not be other than our people, a global team of professionals who act as a bridge between our technology and the end customer. This week has helped us to get to know each other better, to learn from each other, and to strengthen the message in which we believe and motivates us to continue growing every day.

A clear value proposition; security, savings, and user experience

The incorporation of biometrics generates a clear return on investment. The first benefit is the increase in customer conversion. The ability to offer a digital sign-up expands services to new people and geographies. Once the customers are registered, there are many possibilities thanks to authentication with facial biometrics, voice biometrics, or biometric access terminals. From access to apps or customer portals, authorization of transactions or procedures, payments, or access to facilities without physical credentials.

Another great advantage that contributes significantly to the increase in customer revenue is the reduction of fraud. Every year, insurance companies, financial institutions, telecommunications companies, and others defrauded millions of euros through identity theft. Veridas enables its customers to detect fraud early before it occurs and even allows scanning of a company’s current database for possible unidentified fraud cases.

Last but not least, the improved user experience allows users to complete transactions securely and conveniently, anytime, anywhere, using their biometrics.

The week concluded with a corporate event where the co-founders helped reinforce the message and the way forward in the coming years.

"We wanted to create a company to improve people's lives, and we are succeeding. We want to be leaders in providing technology that can protect people's rights, that can make their lives easier and enable them with possibilities that they would otherwise not have."

And he closed his speech with a thank you: “Thank you very much to everyone for being part of this… Let’s continue with the dream!”.

"We need to continue bringing value and innovation to the market. Otherwise, we will not be able to continue growing as we are doing. We must continue bringing that value impregnated with our values of work, talent, and technology."

Veridas, a specialized company developing biometric solutions for digital identity verification, has announced the opening of its new subsidiary in the United States.

Eduardo Azanza, CEO and co-founder of Veridas, values the arrival in the region very positively: “We will continue to deploy a future without keys and passwords around the globe. We are a growing team of more than 160 employees and already working with more than 150 customers worldwide.”

The US subsidiary will be headed by Michel Nerrant. Nerrant, a French-born electrical engineer by training, has spent most of his career in the United States, working for companies such as Entrust, Schlumberger, WinMagic, and HID Global. “Tackling a market as demanding as the North American can only be done with the best technology, and Veridas has it; we have already earned the trust of several customers in North America and the subsidiary and its team will help maintain them, provide better service and grow in the region”, explains Nerrant.

[FREE DEMO]: Find out how our technology works live

Since 2018, Veridas technology has been reviewed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), the global reference evaluator for both facial and voice biometrics technologies. Veridas also complies with iBeta’s ISO 30107-3 level 2 evaluation, which approves that the liveness detection technology has successfully passed all the stringent requirements in terms of presentation attack detection.

Over 150 customers worldwide already trust Veridas and the company has verified more than 60 million identities across sectors such as Banking, Telecoms & Utilities, Hospitality, Mobility, Gaming, Public Administration or Insurance & Healthcare. Its identity verification and user authentication technology with facial and voice biometrics is already used by international customers and partners such as Deutsche Telekom, BBVA or OneSpan.

Veridas’ arrival in the United States will strengthen its position as a leading biometric technology provider throughout the Americas. A technology that reaches all sectors, but especially relevant for the financial industry. In Mexico, where Veridas also has a subsidiary and headquarters in the capital, 4 of the 10 leading banks in the country are using its technology for multiple use cases like account opening or customer authentication in contact centers through voice biometrics.

Veridas has just been present at the RSA Conference in San Francisco and, next October, will be present in Las Vegas to participate in the Money20/20 USA, the largest fintech event in America; and also in Las Vegas this August for Gartner’s Identity and Access Management conference.

10 years are nothing… https://veridas.com/en/10-years-are-nothing/ https://veridas.com/en/10-years-are-nothing/#respond Wed, 25 May 2022 12:21:58 +0000 https://veridas.com/?p=35850

40 years ago, in 1982, I was a 6-year kiddo, and the football World Cup was going to be held in Spain. I was known as “Naranjito” as I knew all the facts and matters of the competition plus I was spherical like the orange mascot. Ten years later, in 1992, Spain held the Olympic Games in Barcelona (fortunately, I wasn’t known as Cobi, the official mascot…). I can tell that those 10 years passed like a slow caravan of fat-butted snails.

10 years has also passed since Esteban Morrás and I founded das-Nano, but this time the snails have become cheetahs: if Carlos Gardel said that 20 years are nothing, 10 years are the nothingness of a sigh.

10 years pursuing a single purpose: creating the conditions and environment to make possible for the best talent of our land to develop a challenging, world-class, professional career that allows to build a better society.

10 years cultivating our 3T’s: Technology, Talent and Toiling. We can humbly say, that we’ve accomplished the three of them: The best Talent from our land and overseas are joining our more than 180 people team in 6 countries alreadyWe’re on the leading edge of the Technology development with our beloved:

  • Veridas & das-Gate in the Phygital Identity space, safeguarding, thanks to our biometric technologies, our identities in the Digital and Physical space, deployed in over 150 customers in 20 countries.
  • and with our relentless das-Nano shading a new light in the industry, with its state-of-the-art Terahertz solutions, in production at the largest car OEMs in the world.

I won’t talk much about Toiling: we all know that there’s no gain without its proper dose of hard-work and resilience, but I think that we deserve a little bit less of this “T” for the next 10 years.

10 years in which we had the luck (it matters too) to cross our roads with a bunch of crazy people at BBVA that trusted on us and, together, we created… 5 years ago Veridas. Without their courage and conviction, I’m sure we hadn’t make it until here.

100 years won’t be enough to thank every single person that has been, and its part of our team, the partners and customers that are always showing us the best path to grow, and specially my family and my business partner, Esteban, for supporting me in this incredible venture: THANK YOU!

Happy anniversary!

LuzIA, the foundation to promote humanized, ethical and positive Artificial Intelligence, is launched https://veridas.com/en/luzia-the-foundation-to-promote-humanized-ethical-and-positive-artificial-intelligence-is-launched/ https://veridas.com/en/luzia-the-foundation-to-promote-humanized-ethical-and-positive-artificial-intelligence-is-launched/#respond Fri, 24 Sep 2021 11:53:34 +0000 https://veridas.com/?p=26145

Veridas Bootcamp: The Artificial Intelligence camp that fights against digital fraud and deep fakes. https://veridas.com/en/artificial-intelligence-bootcamp/ https://veridas.com/en/artificial-intelligence-bootcamp/#respond Fri, 27 Aug 2021 10:42:33 +0000 http://veridas.com/veridas-bootcamp-el-campamento-de-inteligencia-artificial-que-lucha-contra-el-fraude-digital-y-los-deep-fakes-en-todo-el-mundo/

Introduction

Veridas is constantly innovating and developing its biometric technology that allows individuals, companies and organizations to increase security in identity verification processes.

For this reason, and for the second consecutive year, it has organized ‘Veridas BootCamp’, a camp for young university talent that, among other projects, reinforces the continuous training process of the facial biometric engine created by Veridas. This technology is already in use by companies such as Deutsche Telekom, Prosegur, BBVA, Catalana Occidente, Codere, or Ventocom, in countries such as the United States, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Spain, United Kingdom, Austria or Japan, among others.

During the months of July and August, a total of 8 students from the UPNA, the University of Navarra and the Complutense University of Madrid, with computer science, industrial engineering and Business Administration and Management (ADE) profiles, have joined the Veridas Technology and Innovation team to participate in the training that supports the top quality of one of the best biometric software systems in the world, detecting digital identity fraud and deep fakes around the world, all within the commitment of the technology company with compliance with the regulation on data protection.

Veridas software is endorsed by NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology) and certified with ISO 30.107 iBeta level 1 PAD, ISO 27.001 and the Spanish National Security Scheme, in addition to complying with the most demanding data protection regulations such as the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) or the California CCPA.

Veridas BootCamp, an education and innovation opportunity

This summer “camp” has been a unique opportunity for the academic and professional development of the participating students who, mentored by Veridas professionals, deepen their specialized knowledge of the sector while experiencing the innovation culture of a software development company that leads the international market of biometric solutions based on Artificial Intelligence, combating digital identity fraud and providing confidence in onboarding processes.

For Veridas, a company committed to the creation and training of new professions, it is an opportunity to show how its technology works to these future professionals. Some of the BootCamp participants will soon join the Veridas team, made up of more than 140 people.

“The experience of the participating students through the Veridas BootCamp contributes to the quality of the biometric technology created by Veridas to lead the fight against digital fraud, proves the motivation and potential of young talent, and reaffirms Veridas’ commitment to Technology, Talent and Work, founding values of the Navarre-based company.”

The Technology and Innovation team values the contribution of the students, who are being aware of their role in supporting the training process of Veridas systems. The students have more than proved themselves capable of generating fully functional teams using Agile techniques in just a few weeks.

Students participating in the BootCamp experience different roles and levels of responsibility within their teams, while learning how to increase the security level of biometric engines, always in compliance with personal data protection. In addition, to foster the development of their talent in close contact with their areas of professional interest, they have participated in internal company activities and training, applying their own learning and discovering the working methods of the technology company’s specialists.

How does an AI-based biometric engine work?

Thanks to the boost in Artificial Intelligence (AI), and in particular Machine Learning, that has occurred in recent years, facial recognition technologies (along with voice recognition) have reached very high levels of accuracy, well above the best human physiognomists. Machine Learning biometric models are created from complex mathematical algorithms, which are “trained and taught” as one would do with the human brain, although their “intelligence” is very specific to a certain task, and not generalist.

The results obtained by these systems are much more efficient, accurate and with less bias than those that could be offered by any person. These systems do not allow inferring other characteristics of the subject such as behaviors, attitudes, emotions, tendencies, gender, ethnicity, skin colors, etc., nor do they imply the classification of the person in a profile that can determine future characteristics or behaviors.

According to the latest report of the NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology) 1:N face recognition vendor test 一test in which a facial image is compared against a gallery of millions of images and it is determined whether that person is found within that database一, the latest version of the Veridas biometric engine is capable of performing a 322 millisecond search within a gallery of 1.6 million faces. At the same time, the engine’s accuracy ranks Veridas 15th out of 144 engines in facial identification for galleries of 12 million.

Veridas biometric engines achieve greater than 99.9% identity verification accuracy (determining that a person is really who says he/her is) in both its facial biometrics and voice biometrics solutions.

Thanks to the advanced anti-spoofing and liveness detection techniques integrated in Veridas’ solutions, facial recognition differentiates whether a real face is actually presented and not a printed face or one presented on a screen, while being able to detect whether the face belongs to a real and live person in identity verification processes.

Training the professionals of the future

The Veridas BootCamp, now in its second edition, is bringing skilled, curious and awake young people closer to the professional environment of software creation, a necessary objective in a country like Spain, with a shortage of approximately 100,000 digital professionals.

Training young talent in the professions of tomorrow, arises from the urgent need that exists globally to train thousands of professionals that will allow us to develop and execute the great challenge that faced by companies, institutions and society: the digital transformation. As is logical, the creation of new technologies requires profiles of different academic preparation: from basic technicians, through vocational training technicians, to engineers and doctors, all of them being necessary.

Our universities and education centers have the proven capacity to generate these skills and profiles. And that is why we at Veridas want to contribute our knowledge and position in the market so that the new talent that emerges from the educational centers can live, in first person, the experience of working in a world leading technology company. This is a way to create and train new professional profiles that do not yet exist in the labor market, being a perfect link with the universities where young students are trained.
